Frankincense oil (boswellia serrata) comes from India and is extracted from the hardened resin or tree sap of the boswellia genus of trees. Frankincense has historically and religiously been valued higher than gold. It is considered a holy anointing oil throughout the Middle East and can be found in the Bible as one of the three precious gifts given to baby Jesus.
It has long been treasured for its medicinal properties, and is thought to assist in stimulation of the mind, helping to promote mental clarity, stimulation and memory function. Frankincense oil aids in oxygenation of blood to the brain, and this effect can aid in oxygen absorption and therefore, the ability of the brain to process and retain information.
How to boost memory with frankincense oil:
Diffuse frankincense oil in a steam vaporizer while working. The diffusion of the oil while in focus creates a warm and invigorating scent that rouses the mind and allows for an increased ability to retain and utilize information. For use topically, add a few drops to an unscented carrier oil (such as almond or jojoba) or lotion and rub on any desired part of the body. Adding a couple drops to a morning face regimen can help set the stage for increased mental function throughout the rest of the day.
Frankincense oil can also be used topically in its pure form for mental strength and stimulation. Add a few drops to the bridge of the nose, behind the ears, to reflex points such as the inside of the wrists, between the toes and on the bottoms of feet. For a quick brain boost, take a few drops on your palms, rub them together, cup hands together, and breathe in deeply.
As always, before you begin any sort of regimen using essential oils, please consult with your physician, naturopath, or aromatherapist before doing so. The use of oils can be very empowering and effective in the treatment of a variety of ailments. However, use your own discretion; the medical community is there to help us when oils can't.
