Tea Tree Oil: Using tea tree oil for athlete's foot November 26 2013

Athlete’s foot is an extremely common fungal infection of the skin of the foot. It is caused by
the fungus tinea, which is spread wither by direct skin-to-skin contact or from walking on
damp floors in public showers or locker rooms. The fungus can also be transmitted to other
people or parts of the body by means of contaminated bedding, towels or clothing.
Athlete’s foot is characterized by a variety of symptoms that include: itching, burning, small
blisters, inflammation and cracked, scaly skin between the toes. All of these symptoms, if
left untreated, can worsen and spread over time. If the infected area is scratched and further
irritated, it can be spread to the soles of the feet, toenails, and even other sensitive parts of
the body such as the ears, groin and underarms.
Tea tree essential oil, extracted from the leaves of melaleuca alternifolia, has amazing
antifungal properties that can help treat both the symptoms and the spread of athlete’s foot.
Studies have shown tea tree oil treatments to rival popular prescription topical solutions
such as clotrimazole and miconazole.
