Lavender Oil: Using lavender oil on diaper rash December 02 2013

Days Island 100% Pure Lavender Oil
Diaper rashes are extremely common in infants, and can be very painful and irritating to delicate baby skin. This type of rash is most commonly caused by and associated with leaving a dirty diaper on too long, but there are many other possible causes. These include, a possible allergic reaction to soaps, scents, detergents and bleaching agents in diapers; yeast infections; and changes in diet, among others.
Lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia) can be extremely effective in treating diaper rashes. Lavender oil is extremely healing and has anti-inflammatory properties that make it a wonderful remedy for irritated baby skin and the pain that goes with a diaper rash.
How to use lavender oil to treat diaper rash:
First, clean the area by giving your baby a gentle bath and allowing the area to air dry completely.Make a homemade baby powder by combining cornstarch with 10-30 drops of Days Island Lavender Essential Oil. Use as you would any regular baby powder, by applying a generous amount to the affected area. The lavender oil soothes and repels moisture, and the powder absorbs moisture and prevents chafing.
Place 10-30 drops of lavender oil in one ounce of pure distilled water. Spritz onto affected area and reapply with every diaper change.
Make your own baby oil/ointment by mixing 10-15 drops of lavender oil with 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil (or another gentle carrier oil such as jojoba). Gently apply to the rash and reapply at every diaper change.
