Tea Tree Oil: Using tea tree oil for chicken pox April 16 2014

Days Island 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil

When a chicken pox outbreak occurs, it is most important to nurse the immune system and make the rash as comfortable as possible while it heals. Tea tree oil (melaleuca alternifolia) can provide much-needed relief to the tingling, itching and pain associated with chicken pox, reducing the potential for scarring. Tea tree oil is known for its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic qualities and can provide effective relief to the inflammation and itching caused by the virus.

Tea tree oil also influences the reparative process by encouraging tissue regeneration (also known as scar tissue). This is due to its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that also ward off possible infections to the delicate affected area. Tea tree oil is supported by the skin’s own oils and helps to create a chemical barrier that make the area inhospitable to potential infectious bacteria. This helps to soothe irritated skin, speeds up the healing process, and helps to minimize scarring.

How to use tea tree oil to treat chicken pox:

Gently clean the affected area. Apply 1-3 drops directly onto the rash and allow to penetrate for a few moments. Cover with a cotton ball and bandage if needed. Reapply up to five times a day.

For larger areas, add 15-20 drops to 1 cup of warm water. Soak a soft washcloth in the mixture and gently place to cover the area. Hold it there until it cools completely and repeat as necessary.

Add 20-30 drops to a warm bath or tub to soak affected areas on hands, feet, or for larger rashes on the body. Soak for 20 minutes and repeat as needed.
