Peppermint Oil: Using peppermint oil for chronic fatigue April 28 2014

Chronic fatigue involves much more than simply being tired. It is a syndrome that is characterized by an extreme full-body fatigue that cannot be remedied with rest. The causes of chronic fatigue are not fully understood, but many speculate underlying viruses, emotional stress, immune system problems and hormonal imbalances, among others. While the causes remain mysterious, the main symptom (fatigue) can be supported through a regimen that includes peppermint oil (mentha arvensis).

 

Peppermint oil, when inhaled and absorbed, passes the blood-brain barrier in the body and this increases the transmission of oxygen and other nutrients to the brain. This makes for a mental boost that can be much appreciated at any time of day, and has an energizing effect on both mind and body.

 

How to use peppermint oil to battle chronic fatigue:

 

First thing in the morning, wake your senses by adding 1-3 drops of peppermint essential oil to your shower.

 

Use 5-10 drops in a steam diffuser or vaporizer and inhale throughout the day for a brain boost while studying or working.

 

Place 1-2 drops on palms, rub together, and inhale before a workout or during a mid-day slump. This can boost your mood and reduce fatigue.

 

Place 3-5 drops in a glass of ice water for an additional pick-me-up.

 

Peppermint oil can be applied topically to the skin and is best done so with a carrier oil (such as almond or jojoba) to minimize a slight tingling sensation. This will also allow for the body to maximize absorption.

 

Place 3-5 drops (undiluted or diluted) on the base of the neck. This will allow for both easy absorption and inhalation to maximize benefits.
