Lemon Oil: Using lemon oil for depression May 16 2014

Days Island 100% Pure Lemon Oil

Depression is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide each year. Symptoms of depression include sadness, irritability, lethargy, insomnia, loss of interest in every day activities, school, and a general sense of unhappiness in life.

Lemon oil (citrus limonium) has fantastic energizing properties, having a stimulant-like effect on the brain and an energizing effect on the body. Lemon oil contains a high content of d-limonene, a powerful antioxidant that is helpful in inhibiting the accumulation of toxins, which in turn acts to improve circulation and therefore oxygen to all organs. This allows for a clearer mind and body, which in turn creates an energizing and mood enhancing effect.

How to use lemon oil to treat depression:

Take 3 drops underneath the tongue in the morning and again at night. This is the quickest way for this oil to absorb into the bloodstream.

Take 2-3 drops of lemon oil in a small (8 oz.) glass of water. Drink this mixture first thing in the morning to help set the stage for your day. This mixture can also be taken mid-day for a pick-me-up.

Diffuse 5-10 drops of lemon oil in a steam vaporizer throughout the day. This constant exposure to the vapors alleviates both emotional and physical symptoms of depression.

Lemon oil can also be used topically in its undiluted form. Add 1-2 drops to the bridge of the nose, behind the ears, and to reflex points such as the inside of the wrists, between the toes and on the bottoms of feet. Use caution with sun exposure when you are doing this, however, as lemon oil is photosensitive and can make the skin more sensitive to the sun.

For a quick fix, place a few drops on your palms, rub them together, cup hands around nose and mouth, and breathe in deeply.
