Lavender Oil: Using lavender oil for depression June 05 2014

Days Island 100% Pure Lavender Oil

Depression is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide each year. Symptoms of depression include sadness, irritability, lethargy, insomnia, loss of interest in every day activities, school, and a general sense of unhappiness in life.

Lavender essential oil (from the species lavandula angustifolia) can help to balance hormones, and this can have a very positive effect on the regulation of both physical and emotional symptoms of depression. Lavender oil is also calming, relaxing and uplifting, making it a great choice as a supplementation for additional depression treatment.

How to use lavender oil to treat depression:

Take 3 drops underneath the tongue in the morning and again at night. This is the quickest way for this oil to absorb into the bloodstream.

Take 2-3 drops of lavender oil in a small (8 oz.) glass of water. Drink this mixture first thing in the morning to help set the stage for your day. This mixture can also be taken mid-day for a pick-me-up.

Diffuse 5-10 drops of lavender oil in a steam vaporizer throughout the day and at night for insomnia. This constant exposure to the vapors helps to calm and relax the brain and muscles, allowing for hormones to maintain balance

Lavender oil can also be used topically in its undiluted form. Add 1-2 drops to the bridge of the nose, behind the ears, and to reflex points such as the inside of the wrists, between the toes and on the bottoms of feet.

For a quick fix, place a few drops on your palms, rub them together, cup hands around nose and mouth, and breathe in deeply.
