Eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus radiata) has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that make it a great option when various types of pain throughout the body. Eucalyptus oil is considered to be a vasodilator, meaning that it helps to widen blood vessels and as a result, blood circulates more effectively throughout the body. This means that it can help relax stiff muscles, ease joints, and provide soothing relief to topical pain from sores and wounds on the body.

How to use eucalyptus oil to ease pain:


Add a few drops to a warm bath or shower. The heat and steam penetrate the skin and cells to absorb oil and circulate it throughout the body. 


For an effective quick fix, rub a drop of this soothing oil on the base of the neck to immediately relieve tension.


Apply 1-2 drops to additional points on the body, such as the temples, inside of the wrists, between the toes, and in the armpits.


Room diffusers that produce a vapor mist are also an easy way to disperse eucalyptus oil. Add 3-5 drops, sit back, and inhale. 


You can also create your own vapor treatment by boiling a few cups of water and adding 3-5 drops of eucalyptus oil. Place a towel over your head to keep the steam concentrated around your face, bend (carefully!) over the pot and slowly inhale.


If available (depending on the source of pain) when combined with massage, eucalyptus oil can be extremely effective for relaxation and the reduction of stress due to pain. Add 3-5 drops to a teaspoon of unscented lotion or carrier oil and slowly rub into skin for a full body effect.
